Surplus on metal supplies

Since we are now in 2012 and most steel companies are completing their yearend inventory count of metal supplies and products they have on inventory. Perhaps you found that your company has an extra amount of steel products on hand. Are you looking for a way to sell some of that extra inventory? If so you may be surprised to find that countries like Japan and India are always looking to buy extra steel products, the only problem is how are you ever going to get to talk with someone who is from India or Japan? Now with the power of the internet at your fingertips you will be able to contact a metal company half way around the globe to see if they would be interested in your extra supplies of Steel Coils or any other steel products you may have in excess of and looking to sell.
One of the main reasons you may want to sell off your current inventory of steel or metal products is concerns over the fact that prices for steel products may be falling. Ever since the recession has struck across Europe and the United States, many in the steel industry have found that they are ordering fewer materials and keeping lower levels of supplies on hand simply because of economic reasons. With that being said there are many companies in Japan that are in desperate need of steel supplies since they were struck with the earthquakes and tsunami a while back. Also India is looking for supplies as well due to the fact that they are unable to provide enough steel products for the countries growing infrastructure. Selling your surplus metal products to companies in these countries will be beneficial for both sides helping you get rid of your current inventory while helping companies in a time of need.

Businesses should eliminate unnecessary journeys by using video conferencing

An estimated 10million people travel by plane every year; an overwhelming statistic. However whilst no one would deny a person of a well-deserved holiday or break, many of these travellers are business persons wishing to travel nationally and internationally to different parts of the world to attend meetings, seminars and sales presentations. Not only are they adding to the harmful emissions that are released into the air, effecting animals, plants and, ultimately, people, but they are also racking up huge expenses that all need to be accounted for. It seems silly when video conferencing has been around for several years.

It is a well-known fact that planes, trains and motor vehicles release harmful chemicals and fumes out into the atmosphere which damages the ozone layer, animal life on the ground and affects people who have to deal with the increase in pollution. Cars release around 4 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the air, affecting people’s health and wellbeing, every year.

Unnecessary journeys

Thousands of business people travel by various modes of transport to attend meetings. This means time away from their desk, resulting in a lack of productivity. It means expense, as everything needs to be paid for. It means harming the community, something which nobody wants.

Video conferencing allows for people, in several locations, to engage in conversation and interaction at the same time, provided an internet connection is available. Because the system is performing in real-time, users are exposed to high quality visual and audio elements, which saves money, time and the environment, without ever having to leave their desks.

Businesses remain reluctant to invest in videoconferencing equipment, arguing it’s expensive, it’s of low quality and it’s unreliable. However, since 2005, systems have been produced that allow high definition visual representation and high sound quality. Mix that with the increased speed of the internet and the money saved on travel, hotels and general living costs and it’s a real no-brainer.

Think carefully

It isn’t just businesses who are participating in unnecessary journeys and easily avoidable travel. Because of the growth in technology and the globalisation of our world, people are no longer restricted when it comes to mobility. People now commute miles to attend work, to see family, to see friends and to visit places.  It is important for people to thoroughly think about which journeys are completely essential and which ones can be eliminated without causing too much disruption. For example, a 20 minute walk will be beneficial to both yourself and the environment. A 5 day-a-week journey to a different city for work commitments by car alone could be done via public transport. Do something today. Think.

Purchasing goods for your firm

Buying supplies for your company need not be an exercise in frustration and money wasting, particularly if a small amount of time and effort is put into this fairly innocuous section of day to day business. Even small business have to buy things like bubble wrap & cardboard boxes but Many leave supply buying either to the last minute, or to an employee who hasn’t got enough time or an efficient system to work with. By using this simple tips and becoming aware of the fact that supplies for many companies are the lifeblood of profits, purchasing goods could be an easy process that ultimately saves you money.

-          The larger amounts of goods that business purchase, in comparison to consumers, is the secret tool in the arsenal of the business buyer. These large volumes should be used to negotiate discounts with suppliers, who more often than not will advertise their goods with discounts included for larger purchases. Another method that some companies use is to ask about discounts for green activities such as recycling, which will not only save money but also improve your green credentials.

-          An inventory system that is both comprehensive and simple to implement and use is the next step in using supply buying to increase the profits of your company and take the headache out of this area of business. A good system will make sure you buy enough, and at the right time, and as time goes by, your predictions for future overheads will get more and more accurate.

Remember, money costs money, or rather, don’t forget about the interest rates on your borrowed cash! Most companies will use borrowed money to buy in supplies, so if the interest paid on said money is significantly larger than supplier price cuts on purchases of supplies which aren’t strictly needed is probably a waste of money and resources.
